“Uncle Miles” is a bit of a departure from previous Dumhi efforts. Whereas most of the releases in the Dumhi catalog have used Haj’s sample heavy collages as a foundation, “Uncle Miles” is built off of original composition and live instrumentation, along with MicheleQJ’s (Fermented Spirits/Adornment) lyrics and vocals.
Joining Haj and MicheleQJ are long time Dumhi collaborators Terrence Wood (fka Side Effect), Ethel Cee, and Jason LoVullo (bass). “Uncle Miles” also features key contributions from Belli (vocals) and Margel Overton (keys).
The result is a mix of rhythm and blues, hip hop, and soul that signals a new direction while simultaneously fitting right in with the Dumhi catalog.
