Soul Supreme‘s new 45 (7inch) takes on A Tribe Called Quest‘s “Award Tour” and “Bonita Applebum,” while he stays true to their sampling origins by Weldon Irvine, RAMP, Milt Jackson, and Rotary Connection. It’s the fifth release by the Amsterdam-based keyboardist, producer, and DJ in his series of renditions of hip-hop classics.
Previous editions were built around works by J Dilla, Madvillain, Mos Def, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five and another A Tribe Called Quest-centered 45 with “Check The Rhyme” b/w “Lyrics To Go,” which shows how big of an inspiration the originators are to Soul Supreme.
